Why Fans Should Continue Watching The Witcher
In Oct. 2022, fans of “The Witcher” were devastated when it was announced that Henry Cavil would not be playing Geralt of Rivia after the third season. Cavil has always expressed his love and excitement regarding the show, leaving fans confused about his exit.
Rumors arose of Cavil quitting due to differences between him and the writers about keeping close to the books and video games. Other rumors speculated that Cavil’s exit was due to him rejoining the DCU to reprise his role of Superman. None of the rumors surrounding Cavil and his reason for departing have been confirmed.
Since the announcement, fans have expressed their anger about Cavil leaving with Liam Hemsworth to take over as Geralt. Many people have commented online that they will no longer be watching after season three and are rooting for a cancellation.
“The Witcher” is still set to return for seasons four and five with Hemsworth as the lead. Nothing has been said about a sixth season, but with the several fans declaring to stop watching maybe there will not be one.
Everyone proclaiming to cease watching after Cavil’s exit is doing the rest of the cast a disservice. Actors such as Anya Chalotra, who portrays Yennefer, and Freya Allen as Princess Cirilla have done astounding jobs of depicting their character’s struggles. People casting these extraordinary actors aside for one man is putting their hard work to waste.
Not to mention the crew who have dedicated their hard work behind the scenes to create a show that was widely loved for three seasons. It is not fair to them for fans to stop watching, which will potentially put them out of a job because Cavil chose to leave.
A lot of viewers who are fans of the series are also upset about the changes made to the plot that do not follow closely with the books. Show adaptations of book series rarely follow the exact storyline. If shows were the same as their book counterparts, everyone would already know the outcomes. In the case of “The Witcher”, the video game adaptation of the series does not follow the exact storyline but is still beloved.
Before choosing to stop watching “The Witcher” think of the storylines that have not had their time to shine yet and may never if views drop. Consider the actors and crew members who may lose their jobs and hard work due to a cancellation. Think of the fans of the show who still wish to see it continue, even without Cavil.
