Organization of the Week: Zeta Tau Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) was founded on Oct. 15, 1898, at the State Female Normal School, now Longwood University, in Farmville, VA. USC Aiken is home to the Kappa Pi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. Chartered in December 2001, the members have been dedicated to philanthropy and sisterhood. This chapter currently has 23 members and is welcoming to receiving more.
The organization’s philanthropy is focused on breast cancer education and awareness. During October, the organization held events to do just that. Yearly the members dye the university fountain pink, pass around pink ribbons to the student body and participate in “Think Pink Week” to interact with the campus.
Katherine Sojo, a current collegiate-level sorority member, was very transparent about her experience.
“My favorite thing about being in the sorority is the doors it opened up for me and being able to experience new opportunities…I’ve learned to balance positions within my sorority, work and personal life”
“Being able to see all of the pink ribbons on campus, especially from people outside of our organization is really exciting”
During their philanthropy week, members of Zeta Tau Alpha have multiple tabling events where they spread knowledge about breast cancer awareness. Throughout this week, they hand out pink breast cancer awareness ribbons to students, faculty and staff in support. This is one of the most recognizable trademarks the organization has on campus.
