Weekly Briefing: Shelter-in-place and read Pacer Times

Social distancing is becoming the new normal, Pacers. How is your quarantine going?

Pacer Times is continuing to work hard and publish articles weekly to keep you updated, entertained and distracted from all the mayhem.

In this week’s issue, News Editor Noelle Kriegel wrote an obituary about the beloved, late sociology professor, Dr. Doug Kuck. He was clearly a very well-loved member of the campus community, as they responded with posts and photographs over the last week.

I covered the SGA student leaders Zoom meeting and wrote two COVID-19 updates; one on the U.S. as a whole and another that focuses on South Carolina and Georgia.

Reporter Chi Nguyen wrote an article about how other colleges are combating the coronavirus pandemic, while Arts and Entertainment Editor Erica Bennett covered the recent string of deaths in the jazz world.

Nguyen also covered Arab American Heritage Month, while Bennett wrote a column about the sudden increase in positive interactions that she believes should continue after the pandemic ends.

Business Manager Cole Maddox held a Q&A session with athletic director Jim Herlihy, who articulated the changes that are coming or still being considered for Pacer athletes.

Opinions Editor David Frantz wrote the first edition of his new column “In other news,” which will focus on news that is unrelated to COVID-19.

These are just a few articles in this week’s jam-packed issue, Pacers. Be sure to check out the rest and then look for more news to come next week!
