Diversity Initiatives to host events for National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is held from September 15th - October 15th.

The celebration began in 1968 and was only a week. It was later expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. They chose September 15th because it is the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries and coincides with three other Hispanic countries whose anniversaries fall between the time frame. 18% of the American population are of Hispanic or Latino Origin which equates to about 57.5 million people.
