Nutrition coach aims to help students with new program

Assistant Director of Student Life, Ross Philbeck is dedicated to helping students understand and implement nutrition into their lives.

Philbeck offers semester-long, one-on-one nutrition coaching to help students develop healthier eating habits and a better understanding of nutrition.

Eating healthy in college can be difficult due to the constant grind of class, work, and extracurricular activities. If you’re unfamiliar with nutrition, finding a healthy diet that fits your lifestyle may feel impossible. This issue confronts students across the country and some lack the guidance to reshape their diet.

As a certified nutritional coach, he strives to give “unbiased information about nutrition and help them find a way to eat better.”

Philbeck’s interest in nutrition and passion for “working out and bodybuilding” prompted him to become a nutrition coach last. Now in his second semester in the position, he’s eager to assist more students after successfully helping some lose weight last semester.

In his coaching, Philbeck aims to “provide an opportunity for students to learn about nutrition and help them find the right path for themselves.”

Every student who signs up for the program will get a fitness assessment from the wellness center, a BodPod test that measures body fat, and weekly or monthly meetings. Philbeck coaches “based on what the student wants to do” and is “flexible” in providing guidance based on the student’s nutritional interests.

The program costs only $25 per semester, while professional coaching typically runs from $75 to $150 for just one month.

Honestly, fast-food is very convenient and cooking at home can feel like more work sometimes. Finding a nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle is very important for mental and physical health.

If you’re interested in developing a healthier diet, you can reach Philbeck at ROSSP@usca.edu at your convenience. He’s happy to help.
