Student Life encourages involvement with week-long event
Week of welcome is a week-long calendar of events for students to get know the campus and take the opportunity to meet new people.
Student life especially can showcase all the various offices within it and what they offer to students. Those returning students, this will give the opportunity to reconnect with their old friends after summer break. For new students, this is their opportunity to see what their university has to offer.
The fall 2018 Week of Welcome began August 19th with Move-in day, where many students move onto campus. A few events that followed were Sex on the Big Screen, Cozy and Cream: Ice Cream Social Soul Sister Sessions, Greek Snack Shack, Freshman and Transfer/Non-Traditional Student Orientations, and the Housing Move-In Picnic.
The new Assistant Director of Student Life, Christian Medders said, “It will help new and returning students to be excited about the upcoming year and give the students something fun to do before classes start back.”
Next week will bring the final event of Week of Welcome: Get on Board Day. The general function of the program is to introduce new students to some of the organizations here on campus and if you’re lucky meet a fraction of the student body.
With around 600 freshmen and 300 transfer students this semester, about 900 new students will be joining the USC Aiken community. There are over 90 student organizations here on campus for students to be involved in, categorized typically by political, social, or academic.
