USC Aiken boasts new inclusive bathrooms
This semester, the school seems to be taking the appropriate steps to be more inclusive, with the addition of 16 new all-gender bathrooms around the campus.
All-Gender bathrooms have caused a stir in the media throughout the last few years. Like many, super-sophomore Darshawna Barnes-Mac is ecstatic.
“I think it’s sweet! I really feel like the school is really taking a step to inclusivity,” she stated. “I hope it changes the viewpoint of some of the students here.”
If the goal of everyone is to create an acceptable environment around campus, this is the attitude that we all should have. We’re all adults here and the world is changing. If we act like we’re still in the dark ages, then we are setting ourselves up for failure! Not at all students share the same sentiments.
“I feel that it may increase the rapes that happen on campus,” countered sophomore Destinee Bing.
This is probably a thought that other students share, but I think their worries can be eased with the explanation that these bathrooms are singular stall, so only one student would enter at a time.
All in all, this campus is a diverse one. If we can take the right steps to make everyone feel like they are represented, then we are obviously doing something right!
