University Theatre Players to hold auditions
Life Sucks will be performed by the students and faculty of the University Theatre Players on October 11th - October 14th in the O’Connell Theatre located in the Etherredge Center.
This play is based Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov. Auditions will be held August 29th and 30th at 6:00pm, so if you think you have what it takes and have the time be sure to go and seize your opportunity.
If being in the lime light isn’t your thing you can sign up to work backstage at auditions as well. I had the amazing opportunity to interview and have a wonderful conversation with Associate Professor Chet Longley, who is the Designer and Technical Director of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, meaning he oversees the backstage happenings with lighting, sound board, props, and more.
“50% or more of the plays go unseen to the audience. For every 1 actor or actress there are 4 or 5 people working with them in the background.
Longley described the play as a comedic play that is filled with angst, despair, suspense, love, optimism, and “oppressed human conditions.” He went on to tell me how the play will be interactive with the audience and predicts that “this play will have profound things to say to people.”
“People say Theatre is dead, but Theatre is live and in-person.”
I encourage everyone to either audition or mark your Calendars for when this play will be performing and come out and support your fellow students.
“Support the Arts as if it were a home team,” Longley emboldened.
