Men's basketball team continues winning streak
The USC Aiken men’s basketball team is on a winning streak.
USCA played and won against Georgia College on November 28, which was the first game for both teams in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).
PBC is made up of competing sports teams from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. It is a Division II conference, with 12 teams including USCA.
The Pacers are now 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the PBC league. The opposing team, the Georgia College Bobcats, are 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Xzavier Barmore led the team with 27 points, six assists, three steals and two blocks.
Ty’lik Evans converted 19 points, seven steals and five assists. Evans also managed to achieve the second-best record for steals in USC Aiken’s Division II history.
Doniel Dean dropped 17 points and nine rebounds.
Myles Washington came off the bench to achieve 10 points and eight boards in 19 minutes.
USCA trailed in the first half but bounced back in the second half to claim the lead and eventually the game in a 87-85 victory.
According to reports, during the first half, Evans was able to create shots and tied the game at 33-33 to give the Pacers momentum.
The Bobcats responded by scoring the next four points in a little over a minute and went into the half with a four-point advantage (37-33).
As the Pacers began the second half, they fought back and tied the game at 52 after a steal and lay-up by Xzavier.
Further into the half, Georgia College went on an impressive 18-3 run which gave them an 11-point lead with less than ten minutes left.
When the game was 75-65, Myles hit a shot from behind the arc and, with two free throws by Brock, and a steal converted by Evans, the score rose to 75-72.
With 7:14 left to go in the half, the Pacers were able to tie the score to 77-77.
With an assist from Xzavier Barmore to Faison Brock, the Pacers were able to garner a two-point lead. The final nail in the coffin was hit by Dean and the team was able to hold on to get the 87-85 win.
