College of Sciences and Engineering unveils a new, outdoor patio
On Friday, April 15, the College of Sciences and Engineering opened a new common area for students. The area was made possible thanks to a donation from Dr. Liz Stewart of the School of Business Administration. The new area is a part of USC Aiken’s 60th-anniversary celebration. It is located outside of the Science Building in the building's quad area.
“We are five departments, one college, with one purpose... to produce incredible STEM professionals through transformative STEM education,” the department said in a Tweet.
The new area will also include a horse statue, similar to those found elsewhere on campus and in the Aiken area. This horse was painted by Cara Leverette, wife of Dr. Chad Leverette, the Dean of the College of Sciences and Engineering. It will remain as a permanent decoration. It is themed around science and engineering including depictions of the heart, brain, exercise equipment, plants, computers, mathematics and other scientific imagery.
USC Aiken hopes that this new area will be a welcoming site for prospective students and their families who may be interested in the university’s STEM programs.
