Feature: Annabel Bradham on “capturing a moment in time”

Annabel Elise Bradham is a 24-year-old senior from Alaska and technical and graphic arts major focusing on photography with a cognate in psychology at the University of South Carolina - Aiken.

Bradham was homeschooled before college, so her interests were limited to what she could teach herself since she was 5 years old. Since then, she has learned to “draw, paint, play multiple instruments by ear including piano and guitar, and even to weld.” Annabel was gifted a camera phone during high school; from there, she “fell in love with the art of capturing a moment in time.”

Bradham finds the ability to “harness the power of … memory” while “embody(ing) reality’s unwavering power in conveying life’s many secrets.” She intends to dedicate her career to reminding people just how much they forget, so she thinks of photography as our best attempt at time travel.

“You Can Only Create What You Are”

Bradham thrives on her own self-motivation, so her inspiration is primarily derived from her own “knowledge and experience needed to interpret (her) existence to its fullest.” In this exploration, she has found an appreciation and a self-described resounding adoration for reality itself from a life of heartache and pain that she now uses as a contrasting reminder of the true values in being human.

Though Bradham began her education at Kenai Peninsula College and continued through the College of Charleston, she sates that her professional calling was fully developed here and that her time at USC Aiken has allowed her to pinpoint her passion for photography by means of relative knowledge and personalized guidance only achievable on a smaller campus.”

She attributes her success to “some of the most caring and incredible professors (she has) ever had the honor of learning from as well as (her) soul’s unrelenting cry for enlightenment.” Thanks to them, her dream of academic salvation will finally be recognized when she graduates in May.

Before then, Bradham will display her photography in the Etherredge Center and host a discussion about her work. This event will offer ICE credit. Keep an eye on Student News emails as well as event posters around campus to support her exhibit when the time comes.
