Washington, D.C in Review
On Oct. 26, 2022 three of our members had the opportunity to attend the College Media Association (CMA) conference in Washington, D.C.
The CMA conference is designed to teach college student media groups new tips and tricks, as well as gives students the opportunity to learn from other student lead media organizations from around country! Ideas are shared, new friendships are created and tons of information is thrown out into the open.
This yea we sent our Editor-in-Chief, Erica Bennett, News Editor Destiny Smith and Reporter Abby Williams share their favorite experience from their week in D.C.
“It’s so hard to pick just one experience when there are so many to choose from. Meeting new people, eating new foods, seeing new sights, learning new information and skills. So many options to choose from. I would say that my favorite experience from this entire trip has been getting closer to Destiny and Abby. When they joined the Pacer Times, none of us had known each other at all, and now I feel like we have grown much closer due to the trip. Knowing my staff is extremely important to me, and having the opportunity to get to know them outside of school and work has been an amazing experience all over.” - Erica Bennett
“This trip was such an amazing opportunity that I never could have experienced without being a part of Pacer Times. I am so happy that I was able to learn from the best reporters and journalists in the game. Picking one favorite experience is extremely difficult. I have learned valuable information, made new friends, listened to famous journalists and reporters and so much more! If I had to pick just one, I would have to go with our late-night tour. One night after dinner Destiny, Erica and I rented scooters and rode all around downtown. This was amazing because we got to see the Lincoln memorial, the veterans memorials, the capitol and the Washington monument with little to no crowds. Along with the beautiful sites, we also had so much fun together. Tons of laughs were shared that night, pictures were taken and unforgettable memories were made.”- Abby Williams
“This was the second opportunity that I had to go to D.C., the first coincidentally being during my junior year of high school, and I enjoyed it even more. My favorite activity during this trip was easily the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I learned a lot of new things and got to see things that I learned in history class. I tried a lot of new foods, got closer to Abby, Erica and Jeff and we all got to roam the city, within walking or scooter distance of course, in our cute little outfits. Overall, 10/10 would do this over again!” -Destiny Smith
