Trigger Warning: Mentions of Suicide and Depression

——————————————————————————————

Post Malone released his fourth studio album on June 3rd of this year (2022) and it was titled Twelve Carat Toothache.

This album brings fourteen new songs by him and partners with other artists to bring sounds to quell the soul. Post Malone brings this mix of Pop and R&B to his music which creates the style he has become known for. Twelve Carat Toothache doesn’t stick with only one emotion for the songs and features a variety of listening experiences.

The first song, “Reputation,” is a powerful one. It brings this blend of his voice as this slight echo and the personal experiences he shares is a powerful message. Depression is a key theme in this song with lines like “Take my own life just to save yours” and “Kill myself today” being used throughout. There is this personal reflection in the song that you can read from the lyrics and it is powerful to feel it as music.

One notable line from the song is “This is who I am / Can’t be anyone else” which shows even though he is experiencing this struggle in life he understands he is who he is and holds this reputation. If you have any sad playlists, this is one to add to if this is your kind of music.

“Wrapped Around Your Finger” is this upbeat song with the tempo and the meaning behind the words is all about being in love. It is this anthem for those that are in love so much and have that person they would do anything for.

This is perfect to give a listen to after a first date when you are so happy afterward or if you just want to think of that special someone. This song is one to add to any playlist you have for love or if you just want a happy and upbeat song.

“Euthanasia” is a song that is so simple in the beat and instrumentals, but the lyrics bring so much to it. This song goes more into depth with the depression Post Malone has gone through and his contemplation of suicide. There is a slight romanticism of death in the song, though it shows the obsessive nature behind those dark thoughts. The line “When I go out, it ain’t gonna hurt at all” shows the romantic nature of death not hurting in the end and it all is going away. This song is not for the lighthearted due to the topic and though a good song is not best for repetitive listening if you are going through hard times.

This album opens a lot about Post Malone and his personal experiences with depression and his struggles, but it can be refreshing at times. It shows even people that have so much are able to be struggling inside with mental illness.
