Breaking News: 20-year-old woman killed in hit and run near campus

On Thursday night, a body found in the median on the 3700 block of Richland Avenue West was identified as 20-year-old Tamia Jackson, a resident of Barnwell, South Carolina. Jackson was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled from the scene. The driver has yet to be identified.

Jackson’s body was discovered around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday when witnesses spotted a body in the median of Richland Avenue near Dyches Street. The Aiken Department of Public Safety was dispatched at that time. Her body was identified and she was pronounced dead at the scene. She will be autopsied in Newberry, South Carolina.

Several pieces of evidence were found that will be used in the continued investigation by the ADPS. These pieces of evidence include a pair of black boots, a McDonald’s fry container, an Atlanta Braves baseball cap, a DVD, a pair of socks, pieces of hair, an SC license plate and vehicle debris.
