USC Aiken student and "free spirit," Theron Wallace, drowns over winter break

The body of USC Aiken student Theron Wallace was recovered from Lake Carolina on Wednesday, Jan. 5. Wallace had been missing since Christmas Day and was last seen kayaking on the lake.

Following the discovery of his kayak and paddle, a missing person search began. According to wltx.com, the search continued for more than ten day. On New Year’s Eve, more than a hundred volunteers searched the area with no success.

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, around 4:30 p.m., his body was found and removed by South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officers and members of Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford’s forensic team.

Wallace was a psychology major, USC Aiken admissions ambassador and a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. According to his brother, Cadre Wallace, Theron was a free spirit who enjoyed basketball, meditation, making music, being in nature and having deep conversations.

A celebration of his life was held at Brockland Baptist Church in West Columbia Saturday at 2 p.m.
