USC Aiken's Official Christmas Music List
As Halloween has passed, it’s difficult to go to a store or restaurant and not see Christmas products or hear Christmas music playing through the speakers. Seeing as the unofficial countdown for Christmas has begun, USC Aiken students are asked to share their Christmas music essentials.
Jonathan Robinson, a junior nursing student, kicks off the USCA student body Christmas music list with “Carol of the Bells.” This song is a Christmas essential, and its eerie ostinato, or repeated rhythmic or melodic passage, makes it both memorable and easily remixed. As a result, the Pentatonix cover of this song has amassed over 171 million views on YouTube.
Senior computer science major Isaiah Ervin expressed his appreciation for the Twitch streamer Ludwig’s Christmas EP “A Very Mogul Christmas.” Ludwig decided to make this EP because he noticed that copyright strikes were creating a big problem on Twitch, and he wanted to give creators and himself Christmas music to use during streams.
Junior Special Education major Deanna McCord wraps up this week’s Christmas tunes list with Taylor Swift’s “Christmas Tree Farm.” This tune sounds exactly like a classic Christmas song with sleigh bells and a drumbeat over a happy chord progression. This track is Christmas vibes personified, and it’s surprising that this track came out as recently as 2019.
Every week, we’ll be updating and adding to a Spotify Christmas playlist of USC Aiken students’ favorite tracks, check it out here! Comment or email us to contribute to our holiday festivities!
