Column: United States schools month of March without a shooting

March 2020 was the first March without a school shooting in U.S since 2002.

This year, in the past month, the United States has had zero school shootings due to nationwide school shutdowns.

Though statistics show no school shootings in March, gun sales in the month were still high. This led to gun control advocates fearing that mass killing will start when the lockdown ends.

The earliest known school shooting in America happened in July 1764, when four Americans entered the school and killed the schoolmaster and few children. The first March shooting reported was was in 1873, when a schoolmaster was shot and killed. In March 1884 there were 2 school shootings. Throughout the years, school shootings have increased, killing more students and teachers.

It is heartbreaking to see that it took a pandemic to make March 2020 the first march in two decades to have no school shooting.
