Woman's volleyball team charge ahead in PBC Opener

The USC Aiken woman’s volleyball team triumphed again with their come-from-behind victory against Flagler at the PBC opener Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are 12-0 for the season and 1-0 in league play.

The team was led by Alie Smith with both kills and digs at 16. She also contributed four blocks. Kayla Duggan notched 15 kills to go along with a career-high 28 digs. 

Christine Carroll would slammed home 11 kills and a team high seven blocks while fellow teammate Abbey Schad tallied nine. Kelsey Spurlin would have six kills while hitting a team best .429.

Alli Bell for defense would garner 46 assists and 11 digs while serving up four aces. Teammate Kari Mercer registered a career-high of 14 digs.

After dropping the first two sets to Flagler, the Pacers jumped out to a 13-4 advantage in the third set and never looked back.

In the fourth set, the Pacers forced two timeouts through the first 10 points while maintaining a 9-1 lead. USCA trailed 4-2 in the fifth frame, but Duggan’s kill would stop the Saint’s momentum.

The Pacers will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 1 when they host Emmanuel at 7 p.m.
