SWU overtakes USCA in Wednesday game

The USC Aiken women’s soccer team was in high spirits going into Wednesday evening’s game against Southern Wesleyan University (SWU), but the team lost against their opponent, bringing their record for the season to 0-5.

SWU scored the first goal in the first 10 minutes of action, with USCA continuing to push forward and control much of the first half of the game.

The Pacers began the second half with aggression, with Gressa Olson trying to rocket an attempt at the goal at the 57:20 mark, sailing just high of the crossbar. In the 64th minute of play, a foul called on SWU allowed Paige D'Agostin to take the penalty kick and blast the ball into the left side of the goal, tying the score 1-1.

The Warriors scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute after a loose ball in the Pacers’ box. USCA tried to regain the tying score in the last few minutes of the game, but were unable to do so even with controlling the ball on the Warriors side.

For the game, the Warriors held a 13-8 edge in shots compared to the home team, which earned five corner kicks in the contest. Both Madi Banks and Reese McCormick each split the game time with both goalies having a save between the pipes.

The Pacers will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2, when they play in the next Peach Belt Conference against UNC Pembroke at 7 p.m.
