Bad luck for USCA men's soccer
This season’s bad luck continued for the men’s soccer team last Wednesday with another home game loss.
The team lost to Southern Wesleyan University (SWU), bringing their record to 1-3 for the season so far.
Pushing forward in the first minute of the first half, Ricard Saintil blasted an attempt at the defender’s goal which sailed wide of the frame. USCA earned a pair of corner kicks in the fourth minute, but the men’s team could not capitalize.
SWU held a 1-0 edge at the 30:44 mark, with the contest remaining at 1-0 until they broke through, scoring again in the 60th minute.
For the second half of the game, USCA continued to push to the goal and had a brilliant opportunity with 17 minutes left to raise the score. However, David Box’s shot was saved by a defender. Saintil then collected the ball but missed hitting the post. Ranaldo Bailey shot from 12 yards out at the 75:58 mark which sailed high over the frame.
USCA totaled 19 shots, including 10 on the goal, with goalie Kenneth Kalek playing the first half of the game and Brendan Gribek coming in to finish out the game in the home goal.
Hopefully the men’s soccer team can find some luck before their next game which will be held at Salisbury, North Carolina in Catawba on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
