Free depression screenings in SAC to honor National Depression Screening Day

Free depression screenings in SAC to honor National Depression Screening Day

Wednesday Oct. 9, free depression screenings will be offered in the Student Activity Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in honor of National Depression Screening Day.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, depression is one of the leading mental illnesses in the United States.

The age range for Americans experiencing major depressive episodes is between 18-25, the associated age range of most traditional college students.

According to the NIMH, “Depression is a serious and common mood disorder. Signs and symptoms include feelings of hopelessness or pessimism; irritability; decreased energy or fatigue; loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities,” among others.

The Student News email encouraged students to “take advantage of a free depression screening and register to win a gift basket.”
