Free flu shots for students available in Student Health Center

The Student Health Center, located in the Student Activity Center (SAC) room 106, is providing free flu shots to students.

The health center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m to 3:30 p.m.

According to Debbie Townsend, Administrative Assistant of the health center, USC Aiken had the lowest number of flu cases they have seen due to the free flu shots. The previous year, USCA had one of the “highest numbers in the state” in flu cases. This led to the decision to continue to give flu shots for free.

According to the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, “most college students in the US (70%) believe it is important to get an annual influenza (flu) vaccine, less than half (46%) say they typically get vaccinated.”

However, when the cost is significantly lowered, taken away or given incentives, the statistics rise to 61% of vaccinations.

Along with the flu shot, students also receive a goody bag filled with an information packet, Kleenex tissues, hand sanitizing wipes, a thermometer card with contact information for the health center and a lollipop.
