New SGA President and Vice President - Interview With Erica Bennett and Judson Pickett
Student Body President Erica Bennett and Vice President Judson Pickett were officially sworn in on Jan. 23.
Some of the responsibilities of an SGA president include serving as the official representative for the student body, vetoing bills from the Senate if they are not in the best interest of the student body and acting upon all bills passed by the Senate within five days of being motioned.
Some of the responsibilities of an SGA vice president include leading meetings, putting together the agenda and monitoring communications.
“The support of the staff and also knowing the president is getting the same thing. She’s helping me deal with that,” -Pickett expressing how his fellow SGA members helped ease the transition into his new position
Both Bennett and Pickett are involved in other organizations on campus as well.
Bennett is one of the vice presidents of the Chi Pi Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) and secretary for the National Society of Leadership and Success. Pickett is a member of the Black Student Union (BSU) and plays intramural sports.
Bennett hopes to bring the campus community closer during her time as SGA president. She enjoys listening to students and finding ways to help them.
“I would like students on campus to know that SGA is here for them. We are always open to helping and that no issue is too small…We as a Senate want to hear what students want changed on campus, and we are here to help foster that change.” -Bennett on her hopes for the future
