New Pacer "Golf Course"
USCA has partnered with The First Tee of Aiken to fundraise and build a practice facility for the men's golf team. There have been many assumptions surrounding this new addition to our campus; therefore, I met with Coach Mike Carlisle to set the record straight.
Upon interviewing, Carlisle was very open and straightforward about this advancement for the golf team.
In the past when the team didn’t have their own practice facility, they’d have to use other places and of course, they weren’t always available. This made it difficult for the practice they needed to take place. With this space at the team’s disposal, the power to practice consistently and in the same area becomes available. This facility also allows the team to be on track with where other schools in the area are currently.
“We have something that we didn’t have before…we’ve got something positive in that respect” Carlisle added.
When asked about a couple of things that he was looking forward to for this season he responded,
“We’ve got some good new players; we’re looking to replace a couple that was lost last year to graduation. Looking forward to getting them into representing The University of South Carolina in Aiken playing to see how they do”.
There has been some speculation going around that the new course will be a full 18-hole golf course. It’s been cleared up that this is not true and is really only a 9-hole training area for members of the team to have their own space. This new practice facility will be located on campus property, so it’ll be easily accessible to members of the team, and it’ll be easier for students to come out and support.
Another assumption includes the idea that this practice area took over the area for campus trails and Cross-Country space. The truth is that neither the campus trails nor the cross-country team will be affected very much.
It was very nice meeting with Coach, and I wish him and his team all luck this upcoming season! Make sure you watch out for their first tournament of the season on Sept.12 and Sept. 13 in Augusta, GA!
