Aiken Civic Orchestra presents "A Night at the Opera"

The Aiken Civic Orchestra is performing, “A Night at the Opera” on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken, South Carolina.

The concert will open with the “Triumphal March” from “Aida,” composed by Italian romantic era great Giuseppe Verdi. Another work that is going to be performed is Jules Massenet’s symphonic intermezzo (essentially a symphonic interlude in an opera) “Meditation” from his opera “Thaïs.” What audiences may find easiest to recognize by the orchestra will be the playing of Geroge Bizet’s “Carmen Suite No. 1.” On top of three headlining works, there will also be arias (melodic pieces normally part of a larger work) from other operas, featuring local vocal soloists Sho Anne Seaton and Washington Isaac Holmes.

The Aiken Civic Orchestra is directed by Adam DePriest, a conductor and violinist from Aiken, South Carolina. He, as well as the rest of the organization, advocates for music education and the arts across the community. Later this semester, the Aiken Civic Orchestra will also be “Celebrating Young Artists” in collaboration with the orchestra students at John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia. This collaborative program will take place April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church.
