Opinion: It's O.K. to drop a class
The last day to drop a class this semester without taking a withdrawal-fail is Apr. 1, 2021. That being said, there is a grace period where your loans will not be affected if you are worried about going below 12 credit hours. Check with financial aid first; they can help you figure out if dropping could hurt your financial aid.
Personally, I have had to drop two classes this semester. One spanish class and one history class weren't working for me. Because I am a music major, the majority of classes I take are only worth one credit hour, so I could be taking, for example, 12 credit hours but 12 classes at the same time.
The only person getting your degree is you. Yes, most are on a “four-year degree” plan, but that isn’t realistic for some people. That's okay! Sure, there are concerns about money, time and that daunting question of “When will I start my career?” but if we focus on the when instead of the how, you will always be looking to what you could or should have done. Take what you have already done into account, drop the class and move on! The only person you’re “competing” with, is yourself.
Sometimes life gets in the way, and I guarantee you that it looks so much better to have a withdrawal on your transcript than a withdrawal-fail, or a low grade.
Get the degree, don't let it get you.
