The passing of jazz legend Chick Corea
On Wednesday Feb. 9, 2021, the world lost a legendary jazz pianist and composer.
Chick Corea passed at the age of 79 from a rare and newly discovered form of cancer.
Since his solo career began in 1966, Corea earned 23 Grammy awards, a place in the DownBeat Hall of Fame, been named a National Endowment for the Arts (NEW) Jazz Master and a keyboard virtuoso. Over his lifetime, he gained the status of a legend after 50 years of creativity and output.
In the histories of the Grammy Awards, Corea was the fourth-most-nominated artist; he also was awarded three Latin Grammy Awards and earned the most awards in the Best Instrumental Album category.
Corea wrote many different styles of music from bebop, fusion, children’s tunes to chamber music and symphonic works.
Some of his most popular works are “Spain”, “500 Miles High”, “La Fiesta”, “Armando’s Rhumba” and “Windows”.
