Things to do instead of visiting reopened beaches

On April 21, Gov. McMaster gave his approval for beaches to reopen in South Carolina. While some beaches have opted to stay closed, especially those that are popular to South Carolinians, others are reopening.

For instance, Surfside Beach near Myrtle Beach chose to reopen to joggers, pedestrians and cyclists. Garden City Beach decided to open fully to the public, with beach-goers lining up with their blankets and umbrellas.

Although beaches may be starting to open, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) still suggests that we practice social distancing, wear masks and stay indoors if at all possible. Non-essential outings such as “beaching” should not be where we are at yet, as coronavirus cases are still climbing.

Here are some things that you can do instead of going to the beach:

1. Learn a new hobby, or take up an old one.

2. Read a book.

3. Catch up on the Netflix show or movie you’ve been meaning to watch.

4. Put a puzzle together.

5. Play a game on your phone, computer or gaming system.

6. Take a free course on EdX, Coursera, or Udemy.

7. Start a new habit.

8. Build something.

9. Join an online community.

10. Learn how to cook something new.
