Coronavirus update: The state of the world

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected more than 100 countries around the world.

According to The New York Times, the virus has infected over 100,000.

Friday, Mar. 6, reports showed 5,000 people have died from COVID-19.

In the United States, people affected by COVID-19 has been confirmed in nearly every state with more than 1,000 cases and a total of 41 deaths, according to The Washington Post.

China, where the virus originated, has the highest number of COVID-19 cases with the number as high as 80,945 cases and with more than 3,000 deaths reported.

Italy comes in second highest in the number of people affected by the COVID-19.

As of right now, the world's largest coronavirus outbreaks are growing across Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Outside of Europe, Iran and the United States are still reporting large numbers of cases.

Vast spread of the virus in Italy lead the entire country to lockdown. The country, with more than 17,000 cases confirmed, had shut down schools, bars and restaurants, with only supermarkets and pharmacies remaining open.

Italy has conducted more than 60,000 tests for the virus, which explains why the cases are higher than most countries. Many of the cases across Europe have been traced back to Italy.

According to Fox News, the Trump administration will suspend any traveling for 30 days between Europe and the United States. Trump also prevented any travelers from mainland China and Iran from entering the United States.

To reduce the chance of spreading, experts recommend washing your hands and keeping a safe distance from infected individuals. The coronavirus can begin as a common cold, later developing into fatal respiratory illnesses if not monitored correctly.
