Sports Recap Feb. 10-17th
Here’s a recap of USCA’s sports last week:
Tennis: The Men’s and Women’s tennis match against Georgia Gwinnett was cancelled due to bad weather. The teams took on Anderson University yesterday, defeating them 4-3 in men’s and 5-2 in women’s. The women are now 5-0 in the season. Both teams plan to keep their momentum as they take on Queens University this Saturday.
Softball: The team had a rough week as they dropped 4 games, losing to both Coker and Newberry. The team now holds a 3-5 record in the season. The women hope to bounce back in their next match on Thursday against Erskine in the doubleheader. The game will start at 1 pm.
Baseball: The baseball team took on Shepherd, resulting in a 11-3 win. The team was visited by Florida Southern and dropped two out of three of the games. On Friday, the baseball team lost 6-5 but rebounded by winning 5-4 on Saturday. However they lost the tie breaker 9-1 on Sunday.
Tuesday’s game against Wingate has been postponed. The team will travel to Francis Marion for a weekend series starting on Friday. The Pacers hold a dominating 56-32 series lead over Francis Marion, including a 26-15 road record.
Basketball: Both men and women’s team had stiff competition as they took on Flagler and Georgia Southwestern. The women fell to Flagler 67-66 before their win against Georgia Southwestern 69-66. The women had a total of 16 turnovers against the Lady Hurricanes. They are now 13-11 overall and 9-9 in conference play. The next game will be against UNC Pembroke tonight at 5:30.
Since moving to Division II, the Pacers are 114-111 (50.7 percent) in Wednesday’s games and 168-164 (50.6 percent) in Saturday’s. The team is 4-4 since Feb. 20 and 4-3 since Feb. 23.
As for the men, they left with a 91-81 win over Flagler and a 96-89 win against Georgia Southwestern. The wins propelled them to a 22-2 record of the year and 16-2 conference play record. USC Aiken nailed 41-of-69 from the floor (59.4 percent). Since moving to Division II, the Pacers are 114-117 (49.4 percent) in Wednesday’s games and 194-161 (56.6 percent) in Saturday’s.
The team won 3-4 on Feb. 20 and 3-5 on Feb. 23. At tonight’s games, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be selling Make-A-Wish stars ($1 each) during the doubleheader.
The SAAC will also be raffling off a basket with gift cards from local businesses for $1 a chance (basket value is over $100).
