African American film series to highlight hidden truths
An African American film series including 1959 award-winning film “Imitation of Life,” and recent critical and box-office successes “BlacKkKlansman” and “Us” will be featured this week.
“Imitation of Life” and “BlacKkKlansman” were nominated for a total of eight academy awards, six golden globes and five awards from the British Academy of Film Awards. “Us” earned the largest single-day gross ever for a live-action original movie and received significant praise from critics.
Each of these films relate to the theme of this year’s film series: uncovering hidden truths. Discussions will accompany each of the movies in the series, highlighting the hidden truths portrayed in each feature.
The films in the series will span a variety of tones and genres, exposing students to a range of emotions while also enlightening them about more profound messages concerning race and culture in America.
