ICE event tackles immigration

Discussing and understanding complex word issues can prove to be difficult at times.

Last night, history professor Elizabeth Georgian dissected the issue during an hour long ICE event. She encouraged the audience to be cautious about where they receive data from. Although the purpose of news is for it to be completely factual, sometimes subjectivity is inevitable. Georgian encouraged participants to be careful. She went on to define terms that could be used in a conversation about immigration.

She then discussed human trafficking, what an IDP (internally displaced person) is and how someone is to achieve refugee status.

The event itself was informative but could have been more appealing if there was an open discussion. Different experiences lead to different perspectives, so it may have been nice for the audience to engage in debate.

Overall, the information presented and new understandings that were provided, proved to be one well worth the hour.
