Durag Day is coming to USC Aiken

Durag Day is coming to USC Aiken

Throughout recent years, different forms of empowerment and unification movements have developed across the United States.

Of these events are the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., Pride Parades in numerous cities, and the Million Man March. It is time to make an addition to the list.

A new demonstration of unification called Durag Day has been seen on numerous college campuses such as The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, Morehouse, and more locally the University of South Carolina– Upstate.

For those who do not know what a durag is, it is much like a bonnet, which is a style of head wrap used to protect and maintain one’s hairstyle. The mentioned institutions have all created their own Durag Day celebration. For many, Durag Day is evolving perspectives and cementing headpieces as a statement of pride for black culture.

Be on the lookout for USC Aiken’s first durag day on Friday, November 2, 2018.
